Camp Road Estate Wines
Camp Road Estate lies high in the Mount Molly Morgan ranges overlooking the Hunter River.
The vineyard consists of a total of 90 acres of alluvial soil overlying a volcanic base of basalt; fertile soil that adds complexity of flavour to the grapes.
When honeymooning in the Hunter valley in 1995, Duncan and his wife Libby decided to buy a holiday cottage in the area so they could relax in the beautiful surroundings and unwind from the rigours and stresses of a cardiac surgical practice. Things got a little out of hand and within a few years they had planted a vineyard, built a house and relocated from a major Sydney teaching hospital to a practice in Newcastle.
They planted the first vines in 1998 and added more in 2000. They currently have Shiraz, Merlot and Barbera red wine grapes and Semillon and Viognier whites.
They thought the area was so beautiful that we wanted to share it with others. To that end they built a guest cottage for short term stay and have elected to work with the Department of Community Services providing refuge for children from troubled homes. Whilst they don't have a cellar door they accept visitors by appointment.
Wonderful wines from wonderful people. True boutique wines from the Hunter Valley.
